Another Successful OB Appt

We met with a midwife this morning for our second appt. I was happy that she found the heartbeat right away...she said we have a very cooperative baby. Love to hear that! I did notice that I went down another pound weight wise. I really don't know how that is happening...I am definitely eating. I think it has a lot to do with me being so health conscious with the foods I am eating. I'm eating a lot more healthy than I was pre-pregnancy so I think I'm just losing weight because of it. Maybe I need to start eating more ice cream and McDonald's...who knows. She did not tell me anything about my weight so I'm not going to get too concerned yet. I got yet another explanation on my progesterone levels. I just like to make sure everything is ok which they all seem to think I am.

We also scheduled the BIG U/S appt today. Woohoo!!!! I can't wait until 9:30am on Wed March 18th! The baby better be cooperative as it has been to find out the sex....more importantly, a healthy baby boy or girl. I can't believe I am almost half way there already!!! Time is flying.

Week 17

Watch out...I think I'm starting to feel movement. A couple days ago I felt this fluttering feeling when I was getting ready for bed. I've felt it a couple more times since then...how exciting!! I'm sure in a couple weeks I will be feeling real kicks.

I'm getting closer and closer to my big u/s!!! I have an OB appt on Wednesday this week so I will be scheduling the big u/s then. I hope I can get in around my birthday but not sure if that is too early for them. I will be 18.5 weeks at that time so I bet they will want it to be the following week. We'll see though!!!

I'm showing more and more as the days go along and my belly button is even starting to push out. Wow! This is all going so fast, I can't believe it.

I registered for childbirth and breastfeeding classes this week. I will be busy going to classes in April and May. I'm excited but nervous all at the same time! All this information will be so overwhelming I'm sure.

Fetal Development
Your baby will begin to form fat this week. The fat begins to deposit under his skin and is important in heat production and metabolism. At delivery, fat will account for 2-6 percent of your baby's total body weight. This will help him maintain his body temperature when he is born. Your baby is approximately 5 inches long and weighs in at about 140-145 grams (5 ounces). This means that the baby now weighs more than the placenta.

If you were to get an abdominal x-ray (which isn't recommended and could be dangerous), your baby's skeleton would be visible. His movements are becoming stronger and more frequent now. Reflex movements are fully functional as your baby will regularly suck and swallow and loud noises outside the uterus may actually cause the baby to startle.

My Symptoms
- Numbness in my left leg
- Losing sense of balance
- Hungry all the time

Aw, Man!

Well it doesn't look like I will be coming off the progesterone shots. I just got the call that it only increased to 30.3 (was 30 two weeks ago). Now the doctor wants to put me back on 200mg, which means I'm back to TWO shots in my butt twice a week. Blah!!! Can't wait!

A very good friend of mine just got news yesterday that she is experiencing a second loss. My heart just breaks for her and her husband as they try to move past this terrible event one more time. You really have to wonder why God makes it so difficult for some people...especially people who are absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I don't think I will ever understand. Please keep her and her husband in your thoughts and prayers. It is a terrible thing to experience and I personally know the physical and mental pain that she is dealing with.

Week 16

What a busy week!!! I had 3 lia sophia shows this past week and all of them went GREAT! I made over $1,000 in commission!!!! WOOHOO!!! I still have one more show this month and I do believe that I will beat my manager in sales. This will be the first time ever that anyone beat her sales. She has a big prize for anyone who beats her so I'm hoping I can pull this off. Wish me luck!

I developed a nasty cold this past week and I have been miserable. I really can't take anything for it and I'm not a big pill popper either so I just sucked it up and dealt with it. It was a struggle to get through my busy week but I did take a full day off work (full time job) on Wed along with a half day on Thurs to help me get over this. I'm also experiencing extreme hip pain while I sleep. I woke up in tears Thurs night because the pain was so bad. Erik woke up and helped me get situated down on the couch so I could sleep better. Needless to say I got maybe an hour of sleep that night so work on Fri. was...interesting. I felt TERRIBLE! I decided after doing some research that the "snoodle" body pillow (for pregnant women) really helps with hip and back pain. Erik and I went out right after work on Fri to get one. O.M.G....it was AWESOME! I'm so glad I spent the money to get one. I slept soooooo good Fri night that I was finally feeling better Sat. morning. If anyone is having issues sleeping....I recommend the snoogle!!!! : )

I have *hopefully* my LAST shot tomorrow! I will have bloodwork done as well to make sure my progesterone stayed above 30...if it did, I am DONE with the shots. :::crossing fingers::: My bum really could use the break.

Fetal Development
Your baby's nails are well formed and some babies are even in need of having their nails trimmed at birth. Your baby is emptying his or her bladder every 40-45 minutes. The limb movements are becoming more coordinated and vigorous. The head is erect and the legs are developed. Both the gender and muscle movements are easily detectable with ultrasound. Your baby is approximately 4 inches long and weighs about 80-85 grams (3 ounces).

My Symptoms
- Fighting a stupid cold

Week 15

This past week I've been feeling a little nauseous. I'm wondering if it's because my progesterone has increased. It isn't THAT bad but kinda feels like I have the flu or something. I have a very busy week with lia sophia shows so hopefully that will keep my mind off of it. Nothing too exciting this week other than my butt shots on Tues and Fri. My belly is growing and becoming noticeable with certain shirts.

Fetal Development
Rapid growth of your baby continues at this point. The skin is very thin and you can see the blood vessels clearly underneath. The scalp hair pattern is developing while fine hair (called lanugo) covers the baby's body. Your baby is approximately 12-14 cm (3.7 to 4.1 inches) and weighs about 50 grams (1.75 to 2 ounces).

Your baby's taste buds already look like a mature adult's and doctors have learned that the amniotic fluid that surrounds it can smell strongly of curry, cumin, garlic, onion and other essences from a mother's diet. Your baby's bones continue to harden and retain calcium very rapidly. At this point in the pregnancy the placenta will begin to take on the job of hormone production to sustain the pregnancy, which was the job of your ovaries up to this point. Your baby's eyelids are now firmly shut, and will stay closed until the third trimester.

My Symptoms
- Nausea
- Headaches

Go Progesterone Go!!!

I received my blood results yesterday afternoon regarding my progesterone levels. I was SHOCKED when she told me that it went up to 30!!!! OMG! Usually my progesterone only goes up by 1 point every 2 weeks. It went from 20.5 two weeks ago to 30 this week!!! WOW! I'm so excited!!! The nurse told me that the doctor was VERY pleased with that number coming from me so he said to continue shots 2 more weeks and as long as it is above 30 for my next level check, I will come off the shots!! I'm just so happy that it went up that high. YAY for my body actually doing what it's supposed to do! The girls in the doctors office will be so happy when they see me tomorrow. They have been pulling for me that this week will finally be high enough. I never thought I would see numbers that high since I am considered someone with "low progesterone" and all the doctors telling me that I will probably be borderline low the whole way through the pregnancy. : )

Week 14

I've been feeling great this past week...only slight headaches from time to time. I am officially out of the 1st trimester now and it feels wonderful! I thought this day would take forever but looking back it has been going so fast. The bloatness has gone down and my regular clothes are now fitting again...lol! Today I had blood taken to check those progesterone levels once again. I don't think I will be getting off them anytime soon so I just wait for the call telling me to continue coming in twice a week. I really don't mind it now and as sad as it sounds, I enjoy talking to the ladies in there. What I don't care for are the amount of pregnant teenagers in the waiting room every time I'm in there. It really just makes me shake my head and wonder what the world has come to. I remember being in high school and MAYBE seeing ONE pregnant peer all 4 years. It makes me wonder what school will be like when my kids get there....

Fetal Development
Your baby's body systems are starting to work on their own. The digestive system practices moving food along the intestines and through the renal system and he can create and eliminate urine. He also continues to practice breathing the amniotic fluid in and out of his lungs. Your baby has tiny, soft nails on his fingers and toes, is growing hair and may even suck his thumb. Your baby is approximately 10-11.5 cm (3 1/2 -4 inches) and weighs approximately 1.5 ounces.

Also, your baby's blood is beginning to form in the bone marrow and blood vessels are beginning to connect various parts of the fetus to another. The joints and muscles allow your baby full body movement so your baby is able to move around. The baby's neck is getting longer and his chin is no longer resting on his chest. The eyes and ears continue to move into place. The hands are becoming functional and reflex movements often occur. Nourishment now comes from the placenta. Remember, some of what you eat and drink is getting through to your baby. The doctor can tell if your baby is a boy or a girl using special tests.

Amniotic fluid is an amazing substance. It completely regenerates itself every three hours. We do know that it is partially composed of urine from the baby, but where amniotic fluid in general is made we are not sure. Modern medicine still has some surprises left.

My Symptoms
- Slight headaches
- Some fatigue in the evenings
